About

A researcher, clinician, and evaluator shaped by migration, trauma, and dignity.

I am a psychosocial evaluator, researcher, and clinician whose work is shaped by lived refugee experience, migration scholarship, and trauma-informed practice.

My evaluations are designed to help attorneys present a fuller, more contextually accurate understanding of the person inside the case. Forward With Dignity grew from one core belief: people cannot be understood outside the cultural, developmental, political, and economic conditions that shaped their lives.

The evaluations I provide

I provide psychosocial (mental health) evaluations for asylum, VAWA, T visa, U visa, and hardship waiver cases, conducted remotely, for immigration attorneys and for people seeking an evaluation for themselves.

Qualifications

Who prepares the evaluation

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Illinois and a licensed master social worker (LMSW) in New York, Georgia, and Oklahoma, and licensed in Minnesota. Social work licenses are issued by each state; the LCSW is an independent clinical license. I am not a psychologist, and I provide psychosocial (mental health) evaluations. Who can do an evaluation for immigration? explains the difference.

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Illinois, No. 149.041975; issued September 21, 2026. Verify on the Illinois license lookup.
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW): New York, Georgia, and Oklahoma.
  • Licensed in Minnesota.
  • PhD in social welfare, with a research focus on acculturative stress, trauma, and immigrant mental health.
  • Degrees: PhD, MSW, MPA, MA.
  • Peer-reviewed publications informing the CIAS framework; research.
  • Clinical practice: Staff Therapist, The Jewish Board, New York (2025–present).
  • Teaching and clinical work with immigrant and refugee populations; practice and leadership.
Approach

Silence, changing stories, and delayed disclosure are not automatically dishonesty.

Trauma, culture, language, shame, developmental history, and fear shape how experience is remembered, ordered, and disclosed. My evaluations document that context, so the person inside the case can be understood.

The evaluations are organized by CIAS, a peer-reviewed conceptual framework (Bekteshi & Kang, Ethnicity & Health, 2020), which looks at U.S. climate, cultural, developmental, and economic context before treating delay, silence, or inconsistency as a credibility problem.

My story

Where this work comes from

I was sixteen when I left Kosovo. War was coming. I did not yet have the language for what I was — asylum seeker, refugee, immigrant. Across that ocean I carried a fragile flame: my family’s hopes and the stubborn belief that a life could be built with dignity.

I created CIAS because I refused to keep watching trauma get reduced to a checklist. I founded Forward With Dignity because every person who has crossed an impossible border deserves an evaluator who recognizes both wounds and resilience.
